KSE has a library (Lending Library and Scientific Reading Room) equipped with the reach book collection of Polish and foreign publications. The library and its stores are located in building A. Currently there are 50 thousand volumes and 89 magazines (including 13 in foreign languages) which are subscribed to.
The number of magazines is increasing constantly according to need. Moreover, the library has approximately one thousand five hundred audio and video cassettes as well as CDs used for didactic purposes.
The reading room is located in building A (IV floor) and has at its disposal 60 reading stands and additionally 50 internet stands to be used for individual purposes (free access) of students and employees. There is also an internet HOTSPOT in the library available to all.
The library has the following catalogues:
- classic – box catalogue (alphabetical, systematic, audio-cassettes, video-cassettes, magazines, diploma thesis)
- computer catalogue (authors’, titles, subjects).

RULES OF THE MAIN LIBRARY (LENDING LIBRARY AND READING ROOM)
of the KATOWICE SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS
- The library is available only to:
- KSE students,
- academic staff and administrative staff of KSE.
- Employees of KSE may borrow the books only for business use.
- A reader borrows the books personally. A student’s identification card with bar code is required in order to borrow books.
- Identification cards mustn’t be given to anybody else.
- Self-lending borrowed books to others is forbidden.
- A reader, in order to borrow a book, has to complete an order slip; both in the Reading Room and in the Lending Library.
- Orders put in by the readers are being completed within the working hours of the Lending Library and Reading Room. In the case of a big number of orders, waiting for a book may take longer. Orders put in half an hour before the closing of the Lending Library (and 15 minutes before the closing of the Reading Room) will be completed the next day.
- A reader holds material responsibility for the borrowed books. In the case of books being lost or damaged, the reader is obliged to re-buy the same book, and in the case of the book not being available in a book shop, the reader is required to pay the sum which is calculated as triple the actual price of the lost (damaged) book, but not less than 50 zł.
- Books are lent to KSE students for a maximum period of one month with the possibility of an extension for two weeks. A date stamped on the book’s card is the date for returning the book to the library.
- In the case of a student not returning the book(s) on time, the reader will incur a penalty fee (i.e. 0,30 zł per day of delay per each book). In exceptional circumstances the penalty fee may be reduced. The final decision is taken by the Library Director.
- Student may borrow a maximum of. 10 books at a time.
- Academic staff and administrative staff of KSE may borrow books for the period of classes’ time at the KSE.
- The following ARE NOT lent to be taken home:
- magazines,
- one-copy title,
- audio and video cassettes, CDs,
- and other destined to be used only in a reading room.
Books destined to be used in a reading room can not be taken outside the room without the librarians permission.
- Every reader who would like to use a reading room is obliged to leave his/her student’s card by the librarian and to take a seat which is appointed to them by the librarian.
- Magazines which have a note in a catalogue: “Archiwum” (Archive) are available after agreeing the time of their delivery to the reading room with a librarian.
- It is forbidden to bring to the Reading Room any drinks or food. Overcoats and bags should be left in a special appointed locker.
- Persons who use the Reading Room should get acquainted with the rules of the Reading Room.
- In the Reading Room absolute quiet is obligatory. Persons who don’t follow the rule will be asked to leave the room.
- Those persons not following the rules of the Lending Library and Reading Room will lose the right to use the Library.
